Wedding Trends in Colorado!

Wedding trends do not change a lot from year to year in Colorado, but we have noticed a few trends this year when it comes to cakes and flavors.

Wedding cake trends in Colorado seem to follow what is "hot" in the magazines like Martha Stewart Weddings, or local bridal magazines.  We have noticed our couples choosing cakes that will have simple decorations with fresh flowers.  The decorations vary, but many seem to include elegant filagree or scroll work.  Sometimes brides mimic a pattern in their dress or invitation.  It helps to tie everything together when there is a theme to the wedding.  Textured cakes are also all the rage.  The textured look is similar to what a stucco wall would look like.  It adds depth to the cake and when fresh flowers are added, the cake looks simply elegant.

Flavor trends have been similar over the years.  We have a lot of couples choosing fruit mousse fillings, strawberry and raspberry being the most popular.  White cake, chocolate cake and red velvet are the most poplular choices followed by carrot cake.  The majority of our couples also choose white buttercream for the frosting.  It pairs with nearly everything and has a light mouth feel, unlike some buttercreams that are out on the market.

Overall, we noticed that most couples are sticking the the "simple and elegant" theme, with the addition of fresh flowers provided by their florist to add pops of color.  Coloradans tend to be more laid back, so their cake styles tend to reflect this nature.
